Ryan came to Union College in 2009 to serve as the Director of Public Relations. He was named executive director of the department in 2016.

Previously, Ryan served the communication director for the Texas Conference of Seventh-day Adventist from 2005-2009 and the director of communication for the Mid-America Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist and editor of Outlook magazine.

He graduated from Union College with a bachelor of arts degree in communication in 1997.
